Wire EDM.

Clean, accurate profiles in hardened steel.

Wire electrical discharge machining cuts precise profiles through hardened material, which makes it essential for die work.

Overview

The wire goes where cutters cannot.

Wire EDM uses a thin, electrically charged wire to erode a path through conductive metal. There is no cutting force, so it can produce intricate shapes and very sharp corners in material that is already hardened.

That makes it a toolroom workhorse for punches, die sections and form steels. We use it on our own tooling and for customer parts that need the same accuracy.

01

Punches and die sections

Matched profiles for stamping dies, cut after hardening for accuracy.

02

Complex profiles

Intricate contours and fine features that would be difficult to mill.

03

Hardened materials

Cutting after heat treat avoids distortion from hardening a finished shape.

04

Prototype parts

Small quantities of flat parts cut directly, before tooling exists.

How a job runs

Print to part,
under one roof.

One team takes your job from the first look at the print to parts on your dock.

  1. 01

    Review

Send a print, a model or a sample part. We check it for manufacturability and quote it.

  2. 02

    Engineer

Tooling and process are designed in 2D and 3D CAD, with Mastercam and Esprit for the machine work.

  3. 03

    Build the tool

Our tool and die makers build and tune the tooling in house.

  4. 04

    Run

Parts run on our equipment, then get machined, welded or assembled as the job needs.

  5. 05

    Ship

Checked against your print and shipped, ready for your production line.

Why use wire EDM instead of milling?
When a part is hardened, needs sharp inside corners or has thin, delicate features, wire EDM is usually more accurate and puts no cutting force on the part.
